10 Ideas To Update Your Bedding for Summer

10 Ideas To Update Your Bedding for Summer

It’s summer, and that means it’s time for some fun in the sun. One of the ways you can prepare is to make your bed more comfortable for yourself and your guests. Here, we’ll go over some of the top ideas to help you upgrade your bedding for the summer. Read on to find out more.

Swap Your Heavy Layer

The heavy-duty comforter that leaves you warm in winter will make you swelter in summer. Put that comforter away—at least temporarily—and use a lightweight duvet or coverlet instead. There are a ton of cotton duvets on the market for you to choose from. The lightweight cover will take some getting used to, but once you do, you’ll be cool and ready to take on the summer.

Switch to Cotton

So you’ve switched out your duvet. What about your sheets? American-made luxury cotton quilts are great for sleeping in the summer. They are both woven from natural fibers and are incredibly breathable. This is a key component of staying cool in the hot weather. You might even want to dip your hands into percale cotton, which is popular for its crisp cool feel against the skin. Using this type of fabric is a stellar way to ensure that your nights are cool.

Layer Up

During summer, you can bet that your AC will be working overtime. While it beats the outside heat, it can make your home feel cold. Given that this is the case, you might want to work with layers on your bedding. We do it for ourselves in chilly weather with our clothing, so why not do it with our bedding before we sleep?

It’ll be simple enough to use a cotton throw, a light duvet, and your top layer sheet to keep you as warm or cool as you would like. Layering allows you to passively customize the temperature in your home so that you can be comfortable no matter what. Comfort is king in the dog days of summer, so make sure your bedding reflects this.

Consider a Throw

Throws can make for powerful accents for your bedding. Since it’s summer, you should expect to have relatively light bedding. Throw blankets are much lighter than a quilt—which we’ll discuss later—and a comforter, making it perfect for when your home is a little chilly, but you need only a bit more warmth. You can also use the throw blanket to accent the color scheme to brighten up your room.

Your color scheme is surprisingly essential, so next, we’ll show how important color is to augment the look and feel of your bedding décor.

Change Up the Color Scheme

During the summer, there are colors that you’ll want to avoid using. Lay off the browns, blacks, and grays, and lighten your bedding colors. For example, buy white, blue, or natural bedding. Lighter bedding with neutral colors is perfect for your bed this summer. We love a calm hydrangea blue in the summer! It’s calming but still more interesting than a plain white or natural-colored sheet.

You don’t have to compromise your needs, wants, and desires here. However, summer is the time of the year when the sun is closest to the Earth. Match the brightness of your favorite celestial body with the brightness of your bedding. It’ll certainly make a difference.

Pillow Inserts

In addition to the material on the pillow covers, you might want to replace your pillow inserts. We might find that our pillows lose their volume and flatten over time. If this is your third summer in the row without you replacing them, it’s time to swap out your pillow inserts. Down inserts are the most breathable—especially over the different types of synthetic fill—so they are better for the summer months.

Pillow Shams

Pillow shams are a great way to add texture and interest to your bed. During the summer months, you should gravitate toward lighter colors, like blue or white. Try to complement your pillow shams with a similar duvet cover at the foot of your bed.

These extra pillows with complimentary and comfortable shams are perfect for summer reading and movie nights. Plus, they make your bed a fortress to enjoy extra snuggles and time in bed!

Spruce Up the Headboard Décor

Did you know the décor around the headboard could also affect how your bed looks overall? This is a little-known fact that most people don’t think about. Try to place different art forms around your headboard that complement the sheets. Consider framed art accented with gold or silver framing. Both those frames can complement virtually any color, so it’s a relatively safe bet.

The artwork can be anything you want, of course, but it’ll be wise to complement the style of the rest of the room. Flowers and nature scenes are a good theme. However, we wouldn’t recommend putting up posters or anything that looks cheap. Your bedroom is your sanctuary, and you’ll want to treat it as such.

Get a Nightstand

A good nightstand with a few of your favorite books is ideal for your bedroom. A stylized wood nightstand is traditional. However, you can also choose gloss or metal material that can blend well with any color bedding. Remember: we don’t expect you to buy new furniture every summer. With that in mind, you’ll need something that complements your bedding throughout the year.

Get a Lightweight Quilt

A lightweight classic quilt is essential for a summer upgrade. An all-cotton batting, like the one found in our quilts, allows for airflow, and it’s easy to launder in the wash! Quilts are a versatile covering that you can fold at the bottom of the bed, and your guests can pull them up based on their temperate comfort level.

In short, revamping your bedroom during summer is essential to enjoy the season properly. These tips are sure to get you there, and luckily for you, we’re also here to help! Red Land Cotton prides itself on our bedding. Shop our best-selling bedding today and enjoy your summer!
