For our 10 year anniversary we knew we wanted to get back to our roots. When we launched our first set of sheets in 2016, we offered a lace trimmed set we called "Madeline Gray".
To explain the name, we have to talk about the fabric that makes up all of our bedding. It's our signature yarn size and weave construction that we modeled after a flat sheet we found in a hope chest that dated back to the 1920s. The owner of that original bed sheet, was Madeline Gray. To pay homage to her, we named one of our first set of sheets after her.
The Madeline Gray sheet set originally retired in 2019. The cotton lace we were using wasn't holding up to laundering like we wanted it to. So, for a time, we set that style to the side.
For our anniversary, we searched high and low trying to find a lace trim that could replace our Madeline Gray sheets. We wanted it to be cotton and we wanted it to be made in America. This proved exceptionally difficult. We even sourced an eyelet trim from overseas. We photographed the concept with intentions of offering it. But as I laid in my bed at night, I couldn't help but think that this wasn't the best we could do.
What was so special about Madeline Gray's original sheets? It was the feminine touch, the hand tatted lace, the scalloped edges, the rick-rack... the attention to detail on a solid base fabric that would literally last decades.
So, when we couldn't find a trim that was made domestically, we decided to make it ourselves... in house.
To quote Dorothy, "If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard; because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with!"
And so we looked in our own backyard and found a beautiful ruffle with a marrow edging, cut and sewn by hand in our hometown of Moulton, Alabama.
We believe it's truly beautiful and honors it's namesake well. It's a collection we can be proud of and if you've been with us since the beginning, we think you will love it too!
